Lee Hafley Named Lone Finalist for Schulenburg ISD Superintendent Position

The Schulenburg Independent School District (Schulenburg ISD) Board of Trustees has voted to name Lee Hafley as the Lone Finalist for the position of Superintendent of Schools. Hafley, a seasoned Texas educator and administrator with 29 years in public education, has built a reputation as a results-driven leader committed to academic excellence, community engagement, and student success.
“We are excited to announce Lee Hafley as the Lone Finalist for Superintendent of Schulenburg ISD,” said Board President Mike Zweschper. Mr. Hafley brings a wealth of experience and a record of strong leadership. His focus on innovative instruction, student safety, and building collaborative teams makes him the right leader to guide our district forward.”
Hafley currently serves as Secondary Principal at Flatonia ISD. His leadership experience includes campus-level principal roles across multiple districts, including Snook, Thorndale, and Milano ISDs. He has earned numerous TEA distinctions, implemented successful 1:1 technology initiatives, and led efforts that dramatically reduced disciplinary incidents while improving school culture and academic outcomes.
He holds a Master of Education in Educational Administration from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and is certified as a Superintendent, Principal EC-12, and in multiple instructional areas.
John Petree, President of Texans for Excellence in Education (TEE), which facilitated the search process, commended the strength of the applicant pool. “This search drew 33 highly qualified applicants from across Texas and beyond,” said Petree. “The Board was thoughtful and thorough in selecting a finalist who understands the needs of rural schools and has a clear, student-centered vision for Schulenburg ISD’s future.”
In accordance with state law, the Board must observe a 21-day waiting period before officially hiring Mr. Hafley.
